More Miniature Gypsy Horse and Miniature Gypsy Cross information:
The International Gypsy Equine Association is the first and only Registry to recognize and provide separate Stud Books, specifically for the Miniature Gypsy Horse also known as Mini Gypsy Horse.
IGEA recognizes the Miniature Gypsy Horse to be a "developing Breed," and it is not the same as a what is considered to be FDTN Mini Gypsy Cob.
Miniature Gypsy Horse Breeders are utilizing the small equine genetics of other Breeds to decrease size, in a planned, transparent breeding program to eventually create, a truly Miniature size Gypsy Horse of 38 inches and under in height at maturity. All genetics are recorded on the IGEA Registration Certificate of Miniature Gypsy Horses and Miniature Gypsy Blends (cross bred/ breeding stock). The IGEA Approved Miniature Gypsy Horse Breed Development Program requires at least 1/8th % (12.5%) Gypsy Genetics for eligibility of Miniature Gypsy Blend (cross) Breeding Stock. This allows Breeders who are participating in the Breed development towards truly miniature size (38 inches and under at maturity) Gypsies to utilize small Mini Gypsy Blend Breeding Stock (% X %) in their early Breed Development Programs. This lower 1/8th (12.5%) Gypsy Genetic requirement ONLY applies to the Mini Gypsy Horse Breeding Program in its initial Pilot Stage of early generation Breeding Stock, and is subject to changes in the future.
IGEA Select Breeding Program: is a term used to describe and designate, an IGEA Approved Breeding Program that includes the use of out cross equine genetics utilized in breed development. IGEA Select Breeding Programs are governed and monitored by the IGEA Registration Committee Members.
Miniature Gypsy Blend and Miniature Gypsy Cross: are names, terms to describe Mini Gypsy Horse Breeding Stock that possess, at least 1/8th (12.5%) AND less than 75% Gypsy Genetics, along with out cross small equine genetic influence. A Mini Gypsy Blend is a Mini Gypsy Cross recognized as the fine smaller equine it is, all on it's own merit. Some Mini Gypsy Blends are selectively utilized by Breeders participating in the development of the IGEA Approved Mini Gypsy Horse Select Breeding Program.
The INTL prefix: International, is a term to describe and designate, an equine of Miniature Gypsy Horse genetics by meeting the requirements of the IGEA Approved Miniature Gypsy Horse Select Breeding Program. Presently Stallions, Mares and Geldings of 75% or greater FDTN Gypsy Genetics are recognized as INTL Miniature Gypsy Horses, and have the INTL prefix added in front of their name, and the IGEA custom gold embossed seal on their IGEA Registration Certificate. Miniature Gypsy Horses and Miniature Gypsy Crosses that possess less than 75% Gypsy Genetics, do not have the INTL prefix in front of their name on their Registration Certificate.
The IGEA Herd Books include and recognize The Miniature Gypsy Horses and Miniature Gypsy Blends/Crosses in their own separate Stud Books within the IGEA Herd Books.
The IGEA Registration Certificates of Miniature Gypsy Horses and Miniature Gypsy Blends/Crosses (breeding stock) are printed on Gold Certificate paper, and include "clear and transparent" Ancestry details of their Gypsy and Non Gypsy Genetic Heritage.
