IGEA Gypsy Draft Pony Stud Book & Eligibility 

Welcome to the official registry home of the IGEA Gypsy Draft Pony. Developed by popular request and proven genetic trajectory, this Premier Stud Book explicitly records the continued evolution and recognition of the Gypsy Draft Pony under the parameters of the IGEA Select Breeding Program. 

The IGEA Premier Gypsy Draft Pony Stud Book

To qualify for entry into this elite multi-generational tier, all applicants must meet the following strict structural and genetic baselines:

• Age of Maturity: All applicants must be at least 5 years of age to apply for official entry into this permanent Stud Book.

• Genetics: The Gypsy Draft Pony category is specifically for Mini Gypsy Cob and standard Gypsy Cob lines crossed Haflinger Draft Pony, Spotted Draft Pony and other Pony Breeds. The resulting offspring must clearly resemble the  Draft body type, bone, and signature features of the Gypsy Cob.

• Conformation Preference: An individual displaying heavier bone, a powerful draft build, and distinct, unmistakable "draft characteristics" is highly desired and preferred.

• Mandatory Evaluation: All applicants must be officially approved via the IGEA Evaluation process. 

Mature Height Standards & Transitions 

Height measurements must be taken strictly at full physical maturity (Age 5), measured cleanly at the highest point of the wither.

• Maximum Height Limit: Mature height must stand up to, and including, 14.2 Hands.

• Required Documentation: An official IGEA Height Record Certification Form must be fully completed by a verified authority and submitted.

• Oversized Threshold Transition: Individuals that explicitly exceed 14.2 Hands at full physical maturity are automatically ineligible for this book but will be seamlessly transitioned into the Gypsy Draft Horse Cross Category.

Application Requirements:

• DNA verified Gypsy genetics is required.

• Health Panel Testing (Optional): Advanced genetic health panels are optional but strongly encouraged. 

Strict Photographic Criteria 

To ensure accurate conformation evaluation, applications must include four (4) high-quality photographs capturing the horse from the following angles: Right Side, Left Side, Front, and Rear. All photos must meet these strict presentation rules:

• Full Body Coverage: Photos must clearly show the equine’s full body from head to hoof at each specified angle.

• Ground Surface Clarity: The horse must be standing on completely level ground with zero obstruction of vision where the hooves meet the ground surface. There must be no tall grass, deep bedding, stones, or mud blocking a clear view of hoof contact.

• Recommended Surfaces: We strongly suggest standing the horse on a smooth, flat surface such as a concrete slab, paved driveway, smooth stone surface, or a freshly cut, short-mowed level lawn.

The IGEA INTL (International) Prefix 

• The INTL Designation: The International (INTL) prefix is an honorary term used to describe and designate an elite equine of Gypsy Draft Pony genetics that meets the absolute highest up-breeding requirements of our program.

• The 75% Rule: Stallions, Mares, and Geldings carrying 75% or greater FDTN Gypsy Genetics are recognized as INTL Gypsy Draft Ponies, and will have the prestigious INTL prefix added directly in front of their registered name on their official IGEA Registration Certificate.

• Standard Tier: Gypsy Draft Ponies that possess less than 75% Gypsy genetics will be registered cleanly without the INTL prefix on their certificate.

IGEA reserves the right and final decision to approve or decline any registration application.
